When I originally began this blog several month ago, it was my ambitious intention to post a daily picture and a weekly update. HA.
We all see how well that went…
Life as a parent seems to be full of a lot of “oh well”s doesn’t it? As well as an equal (or greater) amount of “OH S***”s…
However, it is about time for an update, if even a very brief one (because showering is NOT going on todays “oh well” list).
Lincoln is crawling, standing, and making more noises every day. No first steps or first words yet, but hey, he’s only 11months old, we’re not worried. He does dance to music, which is pretty much the cutest thing the planet’s ever going to see, and he has phenomenal rhythm. He’s still the happiest baby ever, but gone are the easy going days of months 1-6. He’s very, very opinionated; and rather dramatic. (I have no clue where those traits comes from…ehem.)
As we approach Lincoln’s 1st birthday, something very interesting has come to our attention. Lincoln thinks mommy & daddy’s “serious voice” (and the word “NO!”) is hilarious. Oh, he knows what “no” means, he just doesn’t care. At all. EVER. His favourite game is to crawl towards something he knows he’s not allowed to have or touch, turn around to make sure Mom or Dad see, and go for it. Full speed, activate deadly-quickness. And then laugh and flirt as we spring (just a little too late!) into action, active deadly-seriousness. When we finally snatch him up and away, he babbles and snuggles oh so adorably. (Read: shamelessly.) Then, he tries it again. This time with a bigger grin.
So this is what happens when two head-strong, spoiled, charming people make a baby.
I tremble in fear for…every year to come really.
Now before I head off to my blissful 5min temperature fluctuating shower I ask you: what am I supposed to do when there’s TWO??
Especially considering I don’t really know what to do with one yet.
I’m having a particularly hard time wrapping my mind around having two babies.
Fortunately, the 6mo belly is helping…. >.>
(this is obviously not me, in case the Hard Rock logo didn’t tip you off, but here’s to ROCKIN the bump…)
Also, any stretch mark cream recommendations from you other mommies?
I used Palmers Coco Butter religiously last pregnancy (before I even started showing!) and avoided marks until the last 2 weeks, where the marks came on with a horrible-terrible-no-good-very-bad vengeance. Needless to say, I found that unacceptable.
I realized today what a surprisingly long time it has been since I have updated this, I have a few new photos (all of the camera phone variety) which I post shortly. For now, a quick update on Lincoln James - he’ll be 8 months old on Friday!
22lbs and (nearly) 29inches long.
This puts him in the 75th percentile for both height and weight at his age, and fully triple his size at birth.
Not a surprise, but he also has a giant head.
He has almost two teeth, not quite in time for Christmas but close.
He is now eating Cheerio’s, every chance he gets.
He is also eating two full meals a day, breakfast and dinner. We’re starting to weasel in the lunchtime snack, and the sippy cup. The only food he hasn’t liked is avocado, and our switch from breast milk to formula (at 6months) went smoothly, no colds or ear infections!
He is making more sounds every day, but “Dadada” seems to be his favourite and we think he’s finally caught on that it means his daddy. Which of course solidifies it as his favourite noise to make. I get “mamama” every now and then, usually when he’s eating.
Last month we moved from the baby-carrier-car-seat to an upright car seat, although he’ll still be rear-facing until his 1st birthday.
Although he hasn’t quite figured out how to crawl yet, he will roll several feet towards something he wants, and often with great success! He will also turn in a circle on his tummy or scoot backwards-ish in an attempt to reach his desired object (usually a cheerio the vacuum missed). We expect him to start crawling any minute and I have already begun child-proofing our apartment, I even have those annoying things on the door handles. Yes, despite of the fact that we’ll be out of this apartment in early March…well before Link can walk.
He can sit unsupported! Every so often he’ll get excited and tumble backwards or try and scoot on his butt and end up on his back. This makes him crazy mad. However, he can sit in a highchair when we go out to eat and he loves being at the table with everyone.
He almost has enough blonde peach fuzz to call hair!
He continues to be a huge flirt and highly popular with the ladies, such a Whinnery man. Unless he’s tired (or hungry) he loves to be passed around. If you’re lucky you’ll get a rarely-bestowed kiss (usually reserved for Mommy, Nana and Daddy’s nose) open mouth and all.
Nap-time is no longer an issue. He takes a morning nap, for about 2hrs and an afternoon nap for 45min-1hr. He has been sleeping through the night on a pretty regular basis too, which is amazing.
He may have my lips, but he looks exactly like Shawn when he smiles.
Like all babies Lincoln loves music. We were a little worried at first when his tastes tended toward hip-hop of the radio variety (as a newborn he loved those phat beatz) but as an older and wiser baby he now enjoys the sounds of DNTEL, Arcade Fire, The Beatles, Iron & Wine and of course the great classical composers.
And that, in a very wordy nut shell, is your update!
And now for a quick word from our sponsor: The-Never-So-Humble-Nonprofessional-Opinion.
It’s never too early to begin teaching a child manners.
We’re house sitting for my parents this week, and discoving that Lincoln really hates to sleep in his graco. HOWEVER, the lack of sleep doesn’t seem to phase him, (lucky him) and he certainly is having fun in Nana’s toy box!
He’s almost six months old now and everything he can grab goes straight in his mouth.
(Look at those arm rolls!)
He is still mastering being able to sit up on his own, so we’re loving the bumbo at play time. Although I’m starting to think we’re going to have to go back and buy the “Play Tray” (of course it would be sold seperately) or construct one ourselves.
Well… Since his favourite toys are still his feet, maybe we’ll wait for Christmas.
(Bobble Head Baby! Dropping his toys to grab his toes.)
After several weeks of searching 2nd hand stores for one of these ridiculous chairs I finally broke down and bought one new (but with a coupon, hurray coupons!).
Lincoln loves it, and considering how much cleaner I’m able to keep the house when I can set him down happily, I love it too!
Also, we were starting to use the high as a play chair and I really wanted to avoid that. We started cereal this week (First Feeding video soon!) and if we sometimes put him in the high chair to eat, and sometimes to play (and not eat you see) we’ll end up with a very unhappy Lincoln.
So, 3 Cheers for the Bumbo. (:
[Coming soon…. our trip to the zoo and our adventure in the park! My laptop, the computer with ALL our past photos, needs repair thus the lack of photos/updates until now.]
